Someone asked me recently, a friend of mine, “what time should I go to bed and what time should I wake up?”

I understood where my friend was coming from, he had expressed to me previously that his weight was high and that his energy was low.

He knew he had to eat better and sleep more if he wanted to lose weight and increase energy.

This question really resonated with me – I have struggled with sleep habits for years, and while I’m not the perfect sleeper I have learned a few things about sleep that I’d like to share with you today. It’s one of the best ways you can reduce food cravings!

1) I want to talk about the mindset of self care so that we can overcome the obstacle of time.

2) I’ll give a few practical pointers to go to bed on time which I have found useful from my perspective.

These things include a dark room, ear plugs, a bedtime routine that relaxes you, getting up out of bed if you can’t fall asleep.

3) I’ll talk about naps. I’m a huge fan of naps.

If you can’t catch the subtle feelings of drowsiness, you’ll never know when to take a nap!

What Time Should I Get Up In The Morning Commentary:

But naps bring us back to the first point of time. Because once it be nice if we all had time for naps every day?

Wouldn’t it be nice if we had time to sleep 8 hours a day?

But the fact is, is that we have very little time.

Often times people don’t think about this.

They know they need to exercise more or sleep better but they say to themselves that they don’t have time.

Is this you?

Well here is a mindset that you need to adopt. It’s the mindset of self-care being a daily thing that doesn’t take up much time.

For example, going on a 10-minute walk midway through your day doesn’t take up much time.

All too often people think about self-care as being a vacation, or going to the spa for 3 hours and getting a massage.

People mistakenly think that taking care of themselves is a thing you do on the weekend.

People also think self-care takes too much time.

Then people also say they don’t have enough time to take care of themselves.

So the issue whole issue about what time should I get up in the morning is time.

The solution is to take many breaks during the day to care for yourself. I’m talking brakes as short as one minute.

But you need to do these brakes frequently.

And, the beautiful thing, is that your productivity will increase.

If you are working for 3 hours without any breaks, you will actually get more work done if you work for an hour and a half, take it 10 minute break to clear your mind, and then get back to work.

So for example, naps.

If you are tired you can take a 15 minute snooze. I do this almost everyday, or at least a few days a week.

Usually around 3:00 p.m. I’m feeling tired enough and so if I just close my eyes I go into a semi sleep and 15 to 20 minutes later I wake up. I feel better!

So before going into sleep habits, I just want to make sure that we’re in the proper mindset.

That we need to be taken care of ourselves everyday. Time and not having enough time is not an excuse.

It’s not an excuse because self-care increases productivity end of story. Now let’s get to the sleep tips.

What time should I get up in the morning?

Environment, have a dark room.

My room is dark and I sleep with a beanie over my eyes.

Noise, I sometimes wear ear plugs but it’s pretty quiet where I’m at. If you can’t go to bed get up and go read a book.

Leave your bed and then go back to your bed once you’re tired again. I just did this last night when I couldn’t fall asleep and when I went back to bed the second time I fell asleep much more quickly.

And perhaps most importantly, have a night time routine that relaxes you.

I know you’ve heard to turn off the electricity and the blue screens before going to bed and this is true.

It’s going to be hard to fall asleep if you’ve just been watching a TV show a few minutes beforehand, at least that’s in my experience, however I do know people that like falling asleep to TV shows so I don’t know if this is a hugely important point.

For me, I also tried to stop drinking coffee by 2:00 or 3:00 p.m.

Alright that’s it for now – how do you get good sleep?
