The gifts of imperfection by Brene Brown is a great book and the practice is hard to appreciate. As a San Jose Eating disorder coach, I see this topic frequently.
Imperfection for many people = untolerable.
We don’t tolerate imperfection. We try to hide from imperfection.
Yet imperfection only leads to this equation here:
First, Imperfect
Then, Judgment
Third, Distrust
This is a formula that happens around binge eating all the time.
We think we need to lose weight.
So we diet.
Yet then our bodies think they are starving so our bodies crave food.
We fear these cravings.

The gifts of imperfection by Brene Brown
We are taught these cravings are wrong, when in reality they are perfectly natural responses to starvation.
Diet programs and mainstream society set you up with false standards of success.
After fearing the cravings, you judge the cravings as bad. The cravings come from your body so you judge your body as bad.
This leads to ever more fear of your body and distrust and disconnection.
This is what happens when we don’t talk about shame. Fortunately Brene is starting to talk about Shame.
